Equipment
Rent or buy the tools you need for total immersion in the BVI's beauty – surfboards, SUPs, kayaks, windsurfing and snorkeling equipment.
We rent by the hour, day or week and sell new and used water equipment. Stop by Surf School BVI at Josiah's Bay, Tortola – an authorized test center for Firewire Surfboards.
Bespoke, Events & Group Activity Planning
Working closely with travel & event planners, concierges, guest services managers and corporate M.I.C.E. teams, we help to design itineraries and activities to suit a group's needs. A company's team bonding or staff adventure trip, a wedding party needing gear, games or guides for daytime fun, private island or super yacht group activities, or simply a child's birthday party at the beach, we plan the serious fun stuff to suit our clients' wishes and surpass their expectations.
Camps
Camps – Kids' Beach&Bush Camp, Surf, Swim, Surf&Yoga camps. Days in the wild bundled with safety awareness training, healthy living and appreciation of the playground.
Nature and Culture
GroundSea Adventures comes from a place of deep appreciation for the natural environment of our islands and respect for BVI culture. We believe that close encounters with both, enlighten and enliven us all.
By sharing our knowledge of the islands in a low impact way with visitors and locals alike, we aim to help towards the preservation and wider appreciation of the BVI's many blessings.

Meet our team!
Alex Dick-Read
Co-founder, Manager, Guide
Alex was born and raised in the BVI and has spent a large part of his life exploring and enjoying the territory.
Before GroundSea Adventures, Alex was a news journalist and magazine/book editor. For 20 years he wrote for Reuters, AP, the BBC, Guardian and many other mainstream media while also founding editor of the international surf-travel magazine, The Surfer's Path. He has also contributed to and edited numerous guide and travel books including Stormrider Surf Guides and, locally, Trails & Tales, A Guide to Walking in the BVI.
Steve Howes
Co-founder, Head of Surf, Guide
Steve Howes is a veteran beach lifeguard turned surf instructor and guide. In his 20 years as a surf lifesaving professional, he has worked on beaches all over the world, conducted numerous rescues and inspired hundreds of people to enjoy the ocean safely. Even now, as a surfing instructor for GroundSea's Surf School BVI, Steve's students learn more than just the joy of stoke from him when they have a lesson. Oh and did we mention that Steve, a BVI resident for 8 years, is one of the territory's finest, most stylish surfers?
Teshawn Jones
Surf Instructor
Teshawn is a homegrown hero. Raised in Josiah's Bay, he comes from a real surfing family. He started helping out at the beach as a youngster and has grown into a fantastic teacher, a great waterman and a real talent in the surf. In 2024 he represented the BVI at the ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico, a member of the BVI's first ever team sent to an international competition. So, as well as being a great surfer and character, he's also something of a national ambassador and we're proud to have him on team!
